Obituary for Dorothea E Meilinggaard

DOROTHEA E. MEILINGGAARD, a 60 year employee of Town of Greenwich, most recently as Asst Town Clerk, passed peacefully on October 31, 2022
She was the daughter of the late Elmer Neilsen and Kathrine Swallow Meilinggaard. She resided at 52 Ritch Avenue West, the family home all of her life. She graduated from Greenwich High School Class of "58. and that year she joined the staff of what now is the Byram Shubert Library. In 1972 she became associated with the Town Clerk Office and was appointed Asst Town Clerk in 1980, a position she held until her retirement. She was also an active member of the Greenwich Rotary Club and served for many years as Secretary to the Representative Town Meeting.
Her dedication to the Town of Greenwich continued the legacy started by her grandfather Albert, a prominent builder and benefactor to the citizens of Byram during the 1st half of the 20th century. He mother Katherine graduated from the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing. Her father Elmer was the Greenwich Tax Assessor at the time of his death in 1964. He was well know as the tall and imposing Drum Major for the multiple award winning American Legion Post 29 Drum Corp.
Survivors include her brother Alan, his wife Diane, and a nephew David Fluegel of Amelia Ohio. A gravesite service will be held on November 15 @ 11:00am at Greenwood Union Cemetery in Rye NY.
