Obituary for Helen M Sudell

Helen (Lyn) Mulvany Sudell; June 2, 1941- January 12, 2023

Helen “Lyn” Sudell, a longtime resident of Cos Cob, CT and loving mother of four, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2023. She was 81.

Born in Port Chester, NY, on June 2, 1941, she was the daughter of Sue and Andrew Mulvany who moved early in Lyn’s life to downtown Greenwich. Lyn graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Greenwich, CT, 1959 and from Boston University in Boston, MA. After graduating from college, she worked as a speech therapist in Norwalk, CT, and spent most of the next few decades raising her children and serving her beloved Cos Cob community. For many years Lyn led a Brownie troop in Cos Cob and in the 1980’s was active in saving the Cos Cob School where she focused on generating donations and support to keep the school open. She was also actively involved with the Cos Cob library volunteering for over 20 years. With her Husband, John J. Sudell of 59 years, Lyn ran the family business, Sudell Plumbing and Heating, and She continued to serve her community with Neighbor to Neighbor until her death.

She was a longtime parishioner at St. Angus, Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich, CT. Lyn was a devoted Yankee fan. She made yearly pilgrimages to spring training in Florida where she met many of her favorite players, and she owned an extensive collection of Yankee memorabilia. She enjoyed crafting, Scrabble, puzzles, and hosting family parties for her many friends in Cos Cob, CT. She loved the beach, boating and being on the ocean, a passion she shared with her husband. Lyn will be remembered for her love and compassion for all. Her home was considered everyone’s home, and there are dozens of her children’s friends who considered Lyn a second mother. Her love for her four children and her four grandchildren was topmost in her life and she met everyone with a generous and caring smile.

She is survived by her Husband John J. Sudell, sisters, Jill and Patricia, four children, Lori, Lisa, Thomas and James: her grandchildren, Zoe, Gabby, Luke and Maeve.

A private service will be held by the family.
