Obituary for Joseph A. "Buddy" Boskello

Joseph "Buddy" Boskello, age 75, passed away peacefully at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his wife and children on September 23, 2022. He was a loving and devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and Friends to many. He is survived by his beloved Wife Dolores “Dee” Alfieri Boskello of 52 years, his Son Anthony Joseph Boskello, Wife Christina, Daughter Ginette Boskello Merenski, Husband James, and three Grandchildren Ava Merenski (10), Scotty Boskello (6), and Ella Boskello (2), his Brother Dennis Boskello, Wife Margo, Nephew David and mother-in-law Teresa Alfieri Siciliano (101) and 15 Cousins.

Buddy was born September 30, 1946 in Greenwich Hospital, son of the late Anthony and Irene Chiappetta Boskello. He was a Cos Cobber, went to Cos Cob School, Central Middle, and graduated in 1964 from Greenwich High School. Buddy served in the US Army and graduated from Bridgeport University He worked for Green Hillls (Now Glen Hollow) Country Club in the Pro Shop, Clairol and Pitney Bows prior to becoming manager of Greenwich and Stamford Taxi in 1969. In 1966 he met the love of his life whom he married in 1970. In 2002 he purchased Greenwich Taxi from previous owners Gunhild and Hubert Tibbetts. He was proud of the many charitable contributions he was able to make and for starting a Senior Rideshare program for reduced fair taxi rides. Buddy retired in 2014 and Greenwich taxi is now run by his son. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Society, Cos Cob Mianus Dugout Old Timers, Knight's of Columbus, Umbrella Club, and Sons of Italy.

Buddy was an avid golfer and would play any golf course that he could. He went to many Super Bowls with his beloved friends who were truly his family to him. He played golf with Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Willie Mays, Lawrence Taylor and Tony Darrow from The Sopranos. Buddy loved Frank Sinatra and went everywhere he could to hear him sing. In 1992 he got to meet his idol and snap a picture with him. He often talked about Frank's class. After they took a picture Frank thanked Buddy for taking it with him. Anyone who knew Buddy knows that he shared the same class and generosity. Like his idol he loved to sing. His favorites were God Bless America, That’s life, and My Way and he truly did live his way. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A mass of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, 84 Sherwood Avenue Greenwich CT.
