Obituary for Joyce Barbara Elkowitz
Joyce (Joy) Barbara Elkowitz, 78, of Stamford and formerly of Greenwich, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2021 at home under hospice care.
Joy was born May 7, 1942 in Kalamazoo, MI. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and then a master’s degree from the College of New Rochelle.
Joy married Howard Elkowitz on April 18, 1975. She taught at Hutchinson Elementary School in Pelham, NY for over 30 years. After her retirement, she enjoyed working at Talbots in New Canaan, and volunteering at The Jewish Home for the Elderly of Fairfield and Stamford Hospital. Some of her hobbies included sailing, needlepoint, scuba diving, and reading.
She had a smile that lit up the room, a wonderful sense of humor, and an infectious zest for life that will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Joy is survived by her husband Howard, daughter Jennifer (Sean) McVeigh, stepson David (Reine) Elkowitz, and brother Clarence Rhoades. She was predeceased by her parents Richard and Margaret (Nelson) Rhoades.
