Maria DiFilippo, 93, of Greenwich passed away peacefully on September 28, 2020 at
Greenwich Hospital with her children by her side. Maria DiFilippo the oldest of five children was
born on May 13, 1927 in Pollutri Chieti in the Abruzzo region of Italy to the late Concetta
DiPietro and Donato DiMartino.
The matriarch of this family - a deeply religious woman who cared for her family and was proud
to remain independent until the end. Although she fought with health issues she was physically
and mentally strong. She leaves a legacy of 2 children Livia Farina and Bruno DiFilippo, 5
grandchildren Jennifer (Jim) Lesage, Claudia (Sandro) Malagisi, Marylena Brooks, Michelle
(Richie) Coleman, Linda (Roland) Knutson and 13 great grandchildren (her pride and joy)
Ashlyn, Abbie, Anslee, Aniston Brooks, Rachel and Luke Coleman, Olivia and Sophia Knutson,
Roman and Leo LeSage, Vincent , Marco and Gia Malagisi. All of us having a strong faith and
love of family. She grew up during the war and did not have any official schooling, however this
did not stop her when moving to the USA. She embraced this country and worked hard (at two
factories) to provide for her children.
She was predeceased by her husband Giuseppe DiFilippo and son in law Vincenzo Farina.
Most recently she befriended many of the residents and staff at Parsonage Cottage. She loved
that beautiful location - she loved her independence and we know the people there loved her. It
brought much joy to the family to see her so happy while at Parsonage.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Khairkah for her compassion, timeless and exceptional
care to our beloved Maria.
