Mary Caruso Hughes
Maria (Mary) Caruso Hughes died March 10, 2023. Mary was the daughter of Joseph and Caroline (Smeriglio) Caruso, born on September 13, 1924, in Cos Cob, CT. In 1947 she married Russell L. Hughes, in 1958 she and her husband moved to Byram, CT and remained there until 1985 when they retired and moved to Florida.
Mary and Russ loved to dance and go on cruises. Both were lifetime members of the Byram Veterans Association. They started catered dinners at the clubhouse and the fried dough concession at the carnivals. Mary served four terms as the president of the Women’s Auxiliary.
Mary is survived by her daughter Barbara Hughes Koveleski (Ronald), and grandchildren Kathy Koveleski of Maine, Michael Koveleski (Margery) of Ohio and Richard L. Hughes (Kim) of Somers, NY. Seven great-grandchildren, Steven, David, Lila, Laura, John and Lillian Koveleski and Alexa and Dean Hughes. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband and best friend Russell, her son Dennis and his wife Jean Hughes, three brothers, Frank, Joseph and Pat Caruso and three sisters, Rosina Searles, Carmela Santiguida and Angelina Gauruder.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M at Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Rd. #3, Greenwich CT. A mass will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Roch Church, 10 St. Roch Ave., Greenwich, CT. Entombment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery, 399 North St., Greenwich, CT.
