Obituary for Phyllis A. Stein

On April 10, 2022, Phyllis (Honnold) Stein was called home to be with the Lord. She was 89 years old. Phyllis was born January 10, 1933 in Port Chester, New York to parents, Rex and Alice, and graduated from Greenwich High School. She wed John Stein on November 21, 1953 and they were married for 63 years. They had four beautiful children. She worked as a bank teller and branch manager at Putnam Trust until she retired in 1996. Phyllis enjoyed traveling and spent much of her retirement seeing the world with her husband. Never one to sit still, Phyllis was a member of many community organizations including becoming president of the Byram/Cos Cob Rotary. While working with the Rotary, Phyllis helped to have a pavilion erected in Byram Park. She was also an active member of the Byram and Glenville Veterans Associations and the Greenwich Senior Center.

Phyllis is predeceased by her mother, Alice (Zikias-Honnold) Policka; her father Rex Honnold; her step-father, John “Yosh” Policka; her husband, John Stein; her Son, John “Jack” Stein; and her granddaughter, Amie Keenan.

She is survived by her children, Jody Hawreluk, James “Jim” Stein, and Susan Keenan and her husband Timothy; her grandchildren, Courtney Keenan, Peter Hawreluk, and Payton, Anderson, and Cooper Stein; and her great-granddaughter, Rebecca Keenan-Hibner.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, September 26 at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Church in Greenwich. After the service, Phyllis and her husband, John, will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greenwich.
