Obituary for Thomas Angelo Scaramuzzo

Thomas Scaramuzzo, 66, of Port Chester, NY passed away suddenly on May 24th surrounded by his loving family.

He was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, NY, the youngest of 6 boys. He attended Our Lady of Victory grammar school and graduated from Mt. St. Michael High School.

He went on to join and eventually co-own the family business, F&A Auto, a service station in Mt. Vernon. His love of cars drove him to become an expert in his field and his advice became sought after by those who knew him.

In 1984, he married the love of his life and they raised two beautiful daughters together in a home they built in Putnam County.

Tom took much joy in spending time with his family, enjoying vacations, county fairs, and teaching his girls the tools of life. Eventually, his love of the sea brought him back to boating. “Captain Tom” spent his summers on the water with friends and family, barbecuing, teaching his sons-in-law the mechanics of boating and “hanging on the hook”.

In 2010, he joined the NYS Department of Transportation as a motor vehicle inspector where he dedicated the last 12 years of his life.

2018 was a special year for him, as his daughters married long-time partners that he thought of as sons and he and his wife bought their forever home in Port Chester. His self-taught skills of carpentry allowed him to complete multiple home renovations and he prided himself in working with his hands.

He welcomed his first grandchild in 2019 and his second in 2021. He cherished the moments he would spend with them and relished in the joy of being Poppy.

Tom had a big heart and was a friend to all. He would go out of his way to lend a helping hand whenever he was needed, most especially for his two daughters.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Debbie; his daughter, Nicole and her husband, Michael O’Neill; his daughter, Danielle and her husband, Corey Lepore; his beautiful grandchildren Emilia (3) and Benjamin (11 months); his five brothers, nieces and nephews.
